HE’S MISSED YOU!
A Review of the new teaser trailer for “It:Chapter Two”
By: Adam Cook
We’re just seven weeks from tomorrow before the most anticipated horror movie of 2019 drops in theaters. Today, Warner Bros. dropped us an appetizer for us to feast on until then. The full and final trailer for It: Chapter Two has arrived. The sequel to the smash hit first movie of Stephen King’s most beloved novel is filled with dramatic moments, emotional characters and of course the scares. Here’s a breakdown of what you will see in the new trailer!
The beginning of the trailer starts with a narration from Mike Hanlon talking about how he’s never left the town of Derry and that he’s remembered all of it. Next there is a shot of inside a sewer where a flood of water shoots right at the screen. Someone is struggling to stay afloat in the water screaming for help when suddenly the camera points to the infamous protagonist Pennywise the Clown, played once again by Bill Skarsgard complete with his glowing deadlight eyes reaching out to save him.
After the Warner Bros and New Line Cinema logos flash, we have a shot of the protagonists giving a toast in a Chinese Restaurant with shots from the ending of the first movie which they took an oath that if Pennywise came back, they would return to finish him once and for all. From there we see a dissolve of the Losers Club as children into their adult entities (Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Jay Ryan, Isiah Mustafa James Ransome, and Andy Bean) one character at a time. And then we come to an overhead shot of a carnival at nighttime filled with lights. Bill Denebrough (McAvoy) enters the fun house and follows a boy trying to find his way out. When he catches up to him, he hears a familiar voice and then Pennywise appears sticking out a long cartoonish tongue followed by his razor-sharp smile with glass cracking.

The remainder of the trailer includes shots of the familiar red balloon floating outside with someone panicking and people holding him down, the gang entering the sewer and arriving in a strange catacomb which is presumably Pennywise’s layer. There is a voiceover from Pennywise where he creepily states he’s waited twenty-seven years and that he dreamt of “you”, craved “you” and missed “you”. While we don’t know who Pennywise is referring to, I took it as a direct message to the audience which is clever marketing. There’re some quick shots from the first trailer, another scary appearance from Bill’s little brother, Georgie, more red balloons coming from under a bridge and a shot of Pennywise closing what appears to be a cellar door from the outside. The final shot shows Skarsgaard is perhaps in human form slowly turning into the demonic clown.
Andy Muschietti is back as director and from what I’ve seen IT: Chapter Two has the potential of being one of those rare sequels that is better than its predecessor. There’s no doubt that this movie will be making bank plus interest at the box office. We’re so close yet so far away from the conclusion of what has been an impressive Stephen King adaptation that could go down as one of the best in modern movie history.
